One of the most common questions people with hyperthyroidism (most commonly Grave's Disease) ask is what foods should they eat. Goitrogens are foods that inhibit the uptake of iodine into the thyroid. These include foods in the Brassica family. Moreover, intake of specific foods can help to overcome few mild hyperthyroidism symptoms. A proper diet aims at easing the symptoms of hyperthyroidism and it. Hypothyroidism occurs when levels of the two thyroid hormones, triiodothyronine (T3) and thyroxine (T4), are too low. Although changing your diet alone isn Hypothyroidism Diet The thyroid gland is a major organ in the human body that is responsible for the production of hormones necessary in regulating metabolism. Note that cooking can destroy the goitrogenic properties of these foods. Therefore it may be best to have them raw, or minimally cooked (steamed, blanched).

The more that is learned about celiac disease and gluten sensitivity, the more we know that is related to many other disease. People with Grave's disease have been found to have a higher prevalence of Celiac than the general population . This is based only on a small population (my Grave's disease clients) - have noticed based upon symptoms and testing for food sensitivity with Applied Kinesiology, many negative respones to chicken and/or eggs. A trial elmination may be worth considering. Again, is is only based upon a small sample population, but often see some negative response to chicken and/or eggs in clients with Graves' disease. Milk and dairy products consumed in the United States are more akin to an industrial waste product that real milk. Considering the tendency of diary to create allergic responses and overall health risks associated with it, I do not recommend any of my clients consume dairy derived from industrial agriculture. This is a controversial topic. The thyroid can be very sensitive to iodine. Large amount can both potentiate hyperthyroidism, or be used to treat it. Many people do suggest taking iodine or herbals high in iodine during natural treatment of hyperthyroidism. I take a more cautionary approach to iodine. Because if used incorrectly it may be harmful, I don't use it, unless there is good reason to do so. Hyperthyroidism is a condition of too much thyroid hormone. I do understand why one would give the body an agent to help it make more thyroid hormone, which the the opposite of what we want. Still, I'm not completely against the use of iodine in cases of hyperthyroidism, provided a good explanation is given. Too many people with hyperthyroidism are taking iodine because they read on some web page to do so. It is true that iodine excess or deficiency can play a role in development of both hyper and hypothyroidism. However, and auto- immune disease such as Graves is typically much more complex in cause, than to be simply explained away as iodine deficiency. Besides, in severe iodine deficiency one would expect a goiter, but increased TSH, and lower thyroid hormone. The exact opposite of the low TSH and elevated thyroid hormone seen in Graves and other triggers of hyperthyroidism. L., Biswas, M., Benton, A., Jones, M. Clinical Endocrinology, 6.
